I am an associate professor in the Department of History and American Studies at the University of Mary Washington, where I teach classes on United States history, colonial America, Native American history, and environmental history. Prior to arriving at UMW in 2011, I spent one year teaching at Bemidji State University in Minnesota. I received my Ph.D. in History from the University of California, Irvine, in 2010, and my B.A. in English and History from the University of California, Berkeley, in 2003.

This site hosts information about some of my research activities; teaching materials for prospective students as well as colleagues to peruse; and a blog on which I write about teaching, researching and writing, and the occasional current event.
